Monday afternoon I received a phone call from a Police Officer that my girlfriend works with (she is a police officer in Southampton). They were in an ambulance on the way to the hospital. Christine's police car was hit head on by a SUV and she was hurt. At the time they just told me that her ankle was hurt and that they couldn't get in touch with her family.
After calling her brother I raced to Southampton hospital. On the way there two other cops called me to make sure someone had contacted me. I knew that it must have been more serious than they were letting on considering the whole squad seemed to be searching for her family and me.
When I got to the hospital she was having a catscan and xrays done so I couldn't see her right away. Eventually I was allowed in, and that was when i learned the extent of her injuries. she had a bad concussion, neck and back injuries, plus the ankle injury that I had been told about.
Two of the officers, her sergeant and the one that originally called me were with her. The car was so badly damaged that they had to cut the side of the car to get her out. I saw a picture later and i must say the car is so bad that the best ways to describe it is totaled and mangled.
Christine stayed in the hospital over night and came home the next day. She will be out of work for months and she can't get around on her own yet. She has crutches, is taking percocet for the pain, and has an air cast on her ankle. She has obvious post concussion symptoms. Since we live together I have been taking care of her since tuesday.
But here is the reason why I posted this; her seat belt and air bag saved her life. The windshield was shattered and the front of the car was bent into an unnoticeable shape. Yet she only has relatively minor injuries. I thank God for the seat belt and air bag. I don't think i will ever drive again without putting my seat belt on.
please do the same.
thank you for reading.

Good Advice Chuck. I've worn a seat belt since I've had kids.
I'm glad Christine is OK, my niece was in a similar accident with an SUV in NYC. Her injuries were worse, broken hip, etc but she did recover and was also lucky her belt was on.
All the best to your families, and wishes that Christine will have a fast and uneventful recover _________________ 27 and counting!

Sorry to revive such an old topic. I haven't been keeping most of you in the loop here on this topic, but if everyone would say a little prayer in the morning I would be grateful. Christine will be having hip surgery as a result of the accident mentioned above tomorrow morning at 8 am. We are hoping everything goes well and she will finally be on her way to recovery.
Thanks
