Determine the Sire Contest joint contest - OVEROk here is the deal. I will be posting this thread at Minnesota Downs, Blazing Saddles and Comedy Central. Your job is to have the specific suggestion that I wind up using to breed to the mare Smart Dog this year. There is no time frame on this contest and end when i decide topull the trigger. The person who suggests the sire that i wind up using will receive 250 credits from my personal stash. You may enter as many time as you desire and at either residency. Only one person will win, so if two suggest the same sire I will award the person whose argument influenced me the most.
A little bit about Smart Dog.
Smart Dog is a G rated mare in my cardinal10 stable. She had 2 wins in her 13 race career. Both wins came in 2004 and were dirt routes. She wasn't much on the track earning a whopping $7,350.
Her first daughter was foaled in 2005. Her name is Kitty Pryde. She is still running successfully in marathon turf races in the low claimer and sometimes starter allowance level. The sir used in 2005 was Western Cat. Kitty Pryde has 13 wins in 52 races. She is currently running in my nyavenger stable, a supporter of Comedy Central. She has bounced around being claimed several times. She has been housed in 3 different stables of mine, has one win for the stable blazingsad and has produced 3 wins for cmd.
Smart Dog's second foal was born in 2007 to Danbird. After seeing Kitty Pryde's success on the grass I used a sire I believed would produce a turf runner. Smart Birdy has won 2 times both on dirt. Go figure. Although running in claimers almost exclusively since turning 3, he has not yet left my cardinal10 barn. In his last race he posted a 95 over 9 furlongs. He will likely be running in a high priced claimer next out before I move him up a level.
Smart Dog's third foal, in 2008, was inspired by Npark (known as Twaits and Bettylou also). I used Systematic at his suggestion on night in the chat room. So far, Smart System has not been such a smart breed, being 0-4. She has best finished 6th in a 14 horse field. She is due to try a dirt sprint next out if a close proximity race presents itself. Otherwise I will send her to something in the marathon distances.
There are no rules regarding which sire, except that I will use BPs not credits. That means i will have to use my cardinal10 stable to breed the new horse. That stable currently has 659 BP and 10 horses. I will breed this horse sometime after I reach 859 bps and have less than 10 horses. Just a couple of guidelines to help you figure out when this contest will end.
Please give me any and all reasons asto why your suggestion is the correct one, whatever that statement means to you.
thanks for playing.
oh one more thing; though the horse will be bred in my cardinal10 stable - a Minnesota Downs supporting stable - I will transfer the horse to a stable supporting whichever residency the winning selection is made from so that we can follow the career together. any questions ask, but i think i have been fairly complete. Suggest away.

How about CANDY RIDE (ARG) for no other reason than I like Charleston Chew candy and you could name the foal Charleston Chew.

i think cothill knows me well. he has the lead thus far. (there a few entries over at blazing saddles)

For my 2 cents, I like Unusual Heat. This "should" get you the long turfer you desire. His dosage is DI: 1.62; CD: 0.44 That should get you 12 furlongs if there is any justice in the sim. IRL, he throws a fair amount of turf winners. Name suggestion: Charleston Heat
Also of note, this probably will not produce a great 2 year old. Probably better at 3 after the distances get longer.

one angle for me would be trying to breed back into the Round Table line, for me the best option there would be K One King (I'm guessing a bargain sire, if he's still in the business), and of course the name works for me -
K One King with Smart Dog = Smart K Nine

adjudicating #62 is a horse that is avaiable and cheap under 100bps
late in week. It has good blod lines and is one that Mike posted that he upgraded this year.

Chuck if you haven't bred this one yet I would suggest using the freshman sire Street Hero. This will give you a nice cross with neartic and should compliment the turf routing type very well. I expect Sreet Hero to be a good producer in the sim although the offspring may be better as 3 year olds.

Chuck,
I like these ideas but I bought a Charleston Chew this weekend and I am not sure how you could pass on Candy Ride - besides the name he can produce dirt routers like your mare

i happen to think all of these suggestions are excellent. it will be a hard decision. the other residencies haven't really come up with much competition.
the cardinal10 stable currently has 787 bp, so there is still plenty of time (especially at the rate i have been earning this year )

this horse will be bred this week, so last chance for suggestions. i will say both my first choice and my second choice are from Minny at the moment.

not sure this is fair to the sire, but I bred a 'K One King' a few weeks ago that didn't fair so well first out, although I had a better bred horse in the same race that 'Four King Howlee' (that's the name of my K One King and it goes back to my days living on Maui) was able to beat, and you might guess that routes are going to be a better fit someday, or not.
anyway some meaningless drivel for you Chuck

Randy why did you leave Maui?
I have not been there in 20 years, but can't imagine leaving if you actually live there!

well I actually went there supposedly for the winter, and stayed 2 yrs, I was young and free but I had a bunch of "stuff" and relationships to either take care of back in Ark. or just never go back. I was never completely comfortable there as my colt's name was intended to hint at. It was fun, but I'm glad I came back.

the above was a suggestion by Fabman. The two finalists were cothill (candy ride) and fabman. the decision was difficult but came down to the fact that i had never used unusual heat before but had used candy ride.
