Gulch Sire Series - Prize credit discussionThere was one leg left to be raced in Gulch Sire Series. Below are the standings. We have two options:
1. Purchase race 20 and run it: Johnno would have to send credits to the party who actually makes the purchase.
2. Declare the series over with the standings below being final.
Now the purse of the final race would have been 100k, and i think with the purse is distributed, and an assumption that theo wouldn't enter; I don't think the standing would change no matter what the order of finish.
The payout of prizes is: The top 3 money earners at the end of the 20 race series will earn the following credit prizes.
1ST PLACE=5000 CREDITS
2ND PLACE=2000 CREDITS
3RD PLACE=1000 CREDITS
I think we should just declare the series final, pay out jrod, cothill, and doza and start a new contest.
any objections to this?
jrodneyg RIDIN' SHOTGUN(KY) $552,750
cothill BIG GULP RYRY(KY) $298,250
doza ONE MORE SHOT(KY) $157,000
theo STORMINA ETS(KY) $133,500
nameless FURBALL(KY) $81,500
chuckrock GO GULCH GO(KY) $16,500
citation MAMBO GAL(KY) $8,000
bigrick tarnished record - in new stable, but well behind

no objections here
and if we are to do this again i will be posting a new sire
for the contest.

Ok I didn't start this contest and I'm not sure how it was to be paid for. I suspect Theo was paying this out of his own pocket because if i pay those credits out, plus the last trainers contest Minnesota will be broke!! To date we have a total of just over 10,000 credits.
Personally I would make the suggest that all prize credits for this contest be halved, but I can also understand if the winners want the prize credits that were promised.

No objections here either way. Sounds like a good idea to put the credit distribution on hold until further notice from Theo, I also have no problem with halving out the prizes as Johnno suggested.

i was going to give half my winnings to the rez anyway.
so this is fine by me.

Well this brings up an interesting question; if we pay out the winners here what happens to the other contests that were recently started back up and those that have been suspended?
The winners earned the credits, but there are a bunch of other leaders in other contests that may not get paid.
I don't know what the res brings in per week, but it appears Theo was kicking in substantially to run all these contests. Perhaps we have to look at what the res can afford now in all contests before making any decisions.
|
Johnno
|
Firstly all the contest shouldn't have been started again without a bit of talk between myself and Chuck because we just can't afford it on ressie wages from Mike.
Dundey you are correct Theo does put alot of his own money into the site as I did when I was running the place, you can't run the contest that Minnesota currently has without self contribution, just another example of Theo's generousity.

I didn't realize Theo put his own funds to pay for contests. For the good of the residency i will decline my winnings.

I had no idea that theo put his own funds in. It actually never even occurred to me that he did. Now i feel bad taking them.
that certainly changes things, since i definitely can not afford to do the same. what do you guys want to do?
|
chuckrock
|
i guess one thing we need to know is how much do we actually earn per week?
|
chuckrock

how about we halve all prizes across the board in each contest?
not sure if that is even enough ,but it is a start.

Absolutely.
Once we have an idea, then the amount of credits per contest can be established. I guess there are also some contests that have not been restarted. Will we just abandon those, or give the leaders something?
I'm pretty good with math. If you give me the numbers, I can come up with something that makes sense. But it's up to you guys (Chuck & Johnno).
By the way, thanks for your efforts to get this thing back running!
I was here when Johnno ran this place and he did a tremendous job, Theo then did the same during his tenure. And Chuck has certainly stepped up many times. Thanks guys.

I have absolutely no issue with you figuring things out if Johnno can get us a weekly average. I would think our award has gotten smaller now that Theo isn't running his enormous barns. It is because of your help (as well as darnath and others) that i felt confident that i'd be able to run things.
as for the other contests:
last man standing: not sure if nameless or randy wanted the last race to be run. I wasn't going to do another addition of the contest at least until 2009.
Trainers contest & No Mercy: looks like Johnno will run these.
Minnesota Cup: I was going to restart this as i updated the webpage but was going to hold off til next week. I'll hold off until we figure out the credit issue.
head to head: i think we missed most of the last contests timeline; i don't think we have as much participation in this contest as we should. we could start anew and the prize can be a horse ( in addition to the minnyholding barns i also have been keeping some future prize horses in minnprize2 - they aren't much but i enjoy breeding them..so i could keep doing it to fund this contest)
10th race feature: i'll wait to see what solution we come up with before deciding if we should continue this.
Bingo: i don't know how to see everyone's bingo card so i'm afraid this contest has to end.
BP contest and $$$ contest: i don't know how theo went about updating these. it seem daunting to go through every stable we have, so i think he must have had some program that did it for him.
fantasy stable contest: I have never even looked at this contest, so a suggestion from one of its participants would be helpful.
sire series: this is one of my favorites so i hope we keep it going. Maybe as part of the entry fee we each purchase one of the races, so that we can cut down on the cost to the res.?

cothill

I would rather not take credits and bankrupt the res. I think we do have a number of prize horses now and more to come from the BP contest. Maybe that works as an alternative.

Just occured to me the res average points is there for all of us to calculate: Below are the rules from site. 28904 is out 4 week total which would not include Theo's stables since he has not played for a least that long. So we earn about 900 credits a week.
Tom
Residency Rewards:
The weekly reward will be based on how many overall breeding points supporters earned for the week.
Residencies that earned more than 1000 breeding points will be given credits equal to the amount of points they earned divided by 8. Residencies earning less than 1000 breeding points during a week will not be awarded.

I know we have not sorted out prizes yet - but it seems pretty clear we are not running the final races so I am entering BIG GULP RYRY(KY) in a regular race this week.
My vote is chuck or Johnno pick three horses from the pool and send them out to the winners and we call it a day.

pretty sure that johnno is planning on paying out all the prizes in full.
with that said, if fred wants to pick out a new sire for the next series i'll start coordinating.

thanks for the credits.i transferred half back to the rez.
if we are going to do the sire contest again i choose

I'll follow Fred's lead and send 1/2 back also.
It was a fun series - Thanks for the rivalry Fred. I guess I needed a few more dirt mile races.

I also sent back half of the credits.

Does anyone know when and if we are gonna start the next challenge? My first attempt didn't do so well and I am ready for a better showing this time.

i'll be figuring this out over the next week or so. the sire will be came home as selected by fred. I just have to set up a schedule and see the cost so that we can fund it.

it appears that a 20 race series will cost 16000 credits (20*800 per race) + prize money. That is a steep ask. Are owners willing to each buy one of the races to help with that? We have to give a few months to allow everyone a chance to breed with came home, so is an anticipated september start good?
|
jrodneyg
|
I am willing to buy a race if thats what it takes to get this contest going.
Fred
And I,like so many others here, are greatful to all those responsible in
making Minnesota a fun residency again.

I can transfer 800 credits to the rez or buy a race for this contest.

So, if we start this series in Sept should we breed 2yr olds to start out the series (which will be 3yr olds when the series ends) ? I was thinking we started with 3 yr olds last time.

let's make that fred's decision.

I think we should breed as 3year olds. there may be too much pressure trying to get the two year olds ready between races.
|
Bluehorse

ok, it was just a thought. 3 year olds it is!
